This Is Why We Use Tallow + Jojoba + Castor + Frankincense

This Is Why We Use Tallow + Jojoba + Castor + Frankincense

Every Ingredient Has a Job

We didn't arrive at our formula by accident. Each ingredient was chosen because it does something specific — and because together, they do something no single ingredient can do alone. Most tallow balms on the market stop at tallow. We didn't, and here's exactly why.

Beef Tallow: The Foundation

Tallow is rendered beef fat, and it has been used as a skin treatment for centuries — long before the modern skincare industry existed. The reason it works so well comes down to biology.

Beef tallow has a fatty acid profile that closely mirrors human sebum — the oil your skin produces naturally. This means your skin recognizes it, absorbs it readily, and can actually use it to rebuild the lipid layer of your skin barrier. It's rich in stearic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), all of which play a role in skin health.

Most synthetic moisturizers try to mimic what tallow does naturally. We just use the real thing. Wondering if tallow is right for your skin type? Read our post on whether tallow clogs pores.

Jojoba Oil: The Regulator

Jojoba is technically a liquid wax, not an oil — and that distinction matters. Its molecular structure is remarkably similar to sebum, which means it absorbs without clogging pores and helps regulate your skin's own oil production.

For skin that tends to be oily or combination, jojoba signals to your sebaceous glands that moisture levels are balanced — reducing the overproduction of oil that often leads to breakouts. For dry skin, it provides a lightweight layer of moisture that doesn't feel heavy or greasy.

It also acts as a carrier, helping the other ingredients in our formula penetrate more effectively.

Castor Oil: The Moisture Magnet

Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, a rare fatty acid with strong humectant properties — meaning it draws moisture from the environment and from deeper layers of the skin to the surface.

It also has natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it particularly useful for skin that's prone to irritation or breakouts. And it gives the balm its texture — that smooth, slightly thick consistency that makes it easy to apply without feeling greasy.

Frankincense: The Renewer

Frankincense (boswellic acid) has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years, and modern research is catching up to why. It's a potent anti-inflammatory that helps calm redness and irritation at the cellular level.

More importantly for skin health, frankincense supports cell turnover — encouraging the growth of new, healthy skin cells while helping to fade the appearance of scars, dark spots, and uneven texture over time. It's the ingredient in our formula that makes the long-term difference you start to notice after a few weeks of consistent use.

Why the Combination Matters

Tallow repairs and rebuilds. Jojoba regulates and penetrates. Castor draws in moisture and soothes. Frankincense renews and calms inflammation. Each one addresses a different aspect of skin health — and together, they create a complete barrier-support system that no single ingredient can replicate.

This is also why our balm can replace your moisturizer, facial oil, and eye cream — the formula is already doing the work of all three.

Most tallow balms give you the foundation. Ours gives you the full formula.

What We Leave Out

No synthetic preservatives. No fragrance. No fillers. No water (which requires preservatives and dilutes efficacy). Just four ingredients, each chosen for a specific reason, in a base your skin already knows how to use.

Simple. Intentional. Effective.
